| Clophill 70M FITA & Head
to Head Sat 8th & Sun 9th July Report by Denise Bunce The
Bunces and Bridges were entered in the above tournament. Clophill is not far from
Milton Keynes so a long drive there on Friday evening and a camping weekend. Saturday
morning we all shot the FITA 70M round and then in the afternoon the Head to Head
knockout event. Jake, unfortunately was drawn first match with Gary.....but he
won by 4 points - poor Gary !!!! Jake was then knocked out on his second match
by 4 points by the eventual winner. I was drawn to shoot
my first match with a lady that I had been shooting with all morning, we managed
to shoot the same score for the 12 arrow match, so we had to do a 1 arrow tie
breaker. We both shot a 9 and had to do another tie-breaker. I felt so nervous
but I eventually won!! I then went through to the semi finals but lost and ended
up coming 4th (not too bad really!!) Saturday night it
rained a lot and Sunday morning didn't seem to be much better, Gary & Jake
were the only ones who managed to get to the shooting line!!! Mike and Teresa
watched from their caravan!!! The weather was extremely blustery winds and several
showers. Both Gary and Jake had byes for their first round won their first matches
but went out on the quarter finals. We were away in time
to get home to watch the World Cup Final and Jake had managed to get 2 qualifying
scores for the Junior World Cup in Mexico in October. JUNIOR
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - Sat 1 & Sun 2 July Report by Chris Jones
It was that time of the year to pack the tent (or the credit
card for staying at the Travel Lodge) and the kids, for the annual pilgrimage
to Lilleshall to take part in the largest junior event of the year, the Junior
FITA Star & Metrics on Saturday and the Junior National Championships on the
Sunday. Luke, Jake, Chris, Andrew, Matt, Nick, Lauren & Megan shot both days
and Alex and James (both first timers) joined them on the Sunday. We
arrived on the Friday evening to set up camp (we as in Luke, Chris & Hillary
and Jake & Gary - really, the rest of you guys, you ought to try slumming
it for a couple of nights, those comfy mattresses can't be doing you any good!)
and Luke & Jake toddled off to put in some practice before heading off for
a takeaway. During the practice the strands on Jake's bowstring started snapping.
A visit to the Wales archery tent brought good news and bad news. The good news
was a new string could be delivered but the bad news was not until the Sunday
morning! So after a good nights pasty & chips, burger,
scampi and Raji specials (I won't mention the local girl), beer and sleep, it
was up bright and breezy for a bacon butty breakfast (don't we eat a lot of junk)
and a gentle stroll to the shooting line. Today was the Metric rounds, 52 targets
and hundreds of juniors. A good days shooting was had
by all with PB's and club records galore: Luke - Metric 1 -PB and club record
- 971 - (15th place from 17); Chris - Metric 2 - PB and club record - 1163
- (9th place from 29) Jake - Metric 2 - PB and club & county record -
1285 (with a wonky string)- (4th place from 13) Matt - Metric 2 - PB - 1212
- (8th place from 13) Nick - Metric 3 - PB - 532 - (28th from 29) Andrew
- Metric 3 - PB - 1296 - (2nd from 7) Lauren - Metric 3 - PB and club record
- 1212 - (5th from 19) Megan - Metric 3 - PB - 1089 - (11th from 19) On
the team front GWAS ladies finished 4th from 8 - Lauren & Megan were in the
4 lady team and the GWAS gentlemen team finished 5th from 8 - Chris was in the
4 man team. In the evening some of us went down the road
for some real food (and beer) outdoors in the sunshine (the pate and the lamb
were yummy - sorry Lauren for nabbing yours!) And a very pleasant evening was
had by all. The following day was the Bristol rounds -
even more juniors shooting with most targets having six archers. Once again
some good scores were achieved: Luke - Bristol 1 - 883 - 11th from 14
Chris - Bristol 2 - PB & club record - 1142 - 8th from 39 Jake - Bristol
2 - PB & club record - 1242 - 5th from 17 Alex - Bristol 2 - PB - 1212
- 7th from 17 - 1200 Rose award Matt - Bristol 2 - 1120 - 11th from 17
Nick - Bristol 3 - PB - 457 - 33rd from 33 Andrew - Bristol 3 - PB - 1230
- 2nd from 8 Lauren - Bristol 3 - PB & club record - 1198 - 1st from 28
- National Champion Megan - Bristol 3 - PB - 1082 - 12th from 28 James
- Bristol 4 - PB (by 130 points) - 881 - 800 rose award - 6 gold end - 14th from
23. On the team front: County Mixed Recurve: GAS 3rd
from 20 - Lauren, Chris & Megan were in the 4 person team. Regional Recurve:
GWAS 3rd from 8 - Lauren was in the 4-person team. Regional Compound: GWAS
2nd from 7 - Jake and Andrew were in the 3-person team. Regional Mixed: GWAS
2nd from 7 - Lauren was in the 4-person team. So a good
weekend was had, shooting was good, weather was good, company was good. This was
the largest group of Cleve Juniors to attend this tournament and I hope even more
attend next year - so go on, put it next years diary now! And don't forget to
bring your tents! That's T.E.N.T not T.R.A.V.E.L. L.O.D.G.E. or H.O.T.E.L!!! If
you're not sure about going next year just have a word with all the guys who went
this year. CLEVE PREMIER EVENT & FITA STAR! - Sat 22 & Sun 23 July
Report by Lauren Hicks Organising this event probably
started the day after last years tournament, with most of us having no idea of
what goes on in the background until we are asked to help set up the field on
the weekend of the shoot! With the field already marked out, the equipment was
taken in two very large vans to Yate on the afternoon/evening of Friday 21 July
and it took until 8.30 pm to have the field all ready to shoot! Saturday
was my first FITA 720 (six dozen arrows all at 70m followed by a head-to-head
competition) so I was pretty nervous - but a bacon roll before we started helped.
There were 14 Cleve Archers shooting, 4 of us being juniors. The best results
were Carole Brimfield 2nd (Ladies Recurve), Francesca Hawker 4th and Teresa Bridges
6th (Ladies Compound), Gary Bunce 6th (Gents compound) and Mike Holden 5th (Gents
Recurve). Mike also got his 650 award! The Docker 'recurves' fought it out with
Dad Steve only beating Chris by 3 points! Both got their 550 awards and Luke Jones
his 500, beating his Dad Chris by lots! After lunch was
the head-to-head. The way this works it that everyone is ranked according to where
they finished in the 720 - so the highest ranking shoots against the lowest etc.
Twelve arrows are shot and the highest scoring of the pair goes through to the
next round. In theory, the highest ranking should beat the lowest and go through
- but Denise was right, it doesn't always work like that! Having not shot very
well all morning I relaxed as I thought I'd be out in the first round - I had
been ranked 12 out of 13 - and surprised everyone (especially me!) by not only
winning my first round but going through to the semis and finishing 4th overall!
Carole came 2nd in the Ladies Recurve, while Francesca just beat Teresa for the
Gold in ladies compound! The highlight of the Gents Recurve was Chris Docker beating
hid Dad in their match, but unfortunately was knocked out in the 1/8 round, as
was Mike Holden, the only other Cleve Recurve gent who made it past the first
round. Mike Bridges was knocked out in the Quarter Final of the Gents Compound,
having beaten Gary to get there! Sunday was the FITA
Star and Metrics. In the Gents Compound, Mike Bridges got a GMB score with a score
of 1331! He finished 7th overall. Chris Jones finished 2nd in the Longbow and
Steve Docker got his 1100 Star award in the Gents Recurve, while Sue Docker claimed
her 1000. Both Teresa and Carole just missed out on the bronze medals for the
ladies. With junior rounds being shot, Luke Jones, Chris Docker, Matt Griffiths,
Megan Vaughan, Sam Boyd, James Smith and I all won our rounds with Andrew Docker
and Nick Griffiths both winning silver medals. It was
a GREAT weekend and could not have taken place without Denise's hard work and
all the club members who helped before and during the weekend. Thank you, thank
you, thank you to everyone! JUNIOR REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Sat 24 June This years Junior Regional
Championships took place on June 24. The weather was glorious! Luke Jones, Chris
Docker, Jake Bunce and Lauren Hicks were selected to represent Gloucestershire
for the Inter-County trophy, which the team of 8 succeeded in retaining! On an
individual level, congratulations to: Hannah Rogers, Jake and Lauren, our 2006
Regional Champions and to Luke, Matt Griffiths, Chris and Andrew Docker who were
all runners up in their respective categories. Some of our up and coming juniors
competed for the first time as this event - well done to Sam Boyd, Emma Willison,
Stephen Pillay and James Smith! EXMOUTH
DOUBLE FITA STAR - CLEAN SWEEP AND RECORDS GALORE! A
small, but determined contingent made up of Denise, Jake and Lauren shot this
tournament on 3/4 June. Denise and Jake enjoyed camping on the ground, while us
'non-campers' crashed at the Holiday Inn Express! We enjoyed two days of glorious
weather and the archers shot pretty well too, with all three winning their disciplines
over the two-day event. In addition, Jake succeeded in claiming no fewer than
SIX National records, while Lauren (shooting above her age group) claimed one
National Record! Not to be outdone, Denise achieved her first MB score of the
season (imagine what she could do if she practised?) Well done to all!
BLACK & GOLD SPRING SHOOT Report by Chris Jones
It would have been a good turnout
but from
the moment we got up it was pouring with rain and by the time we got there and
set up only Luke Jones, Megan Vaughan, Joe Rawle and Stephen Pillay were ready
to shoot. It really was unpleasant to shoot in and
Stephen retired early. Luke wanted to pack up but gentle persuasion (a trophy
was there for the taking!) And the fact that I was staying all day (I was shooting
longbow in my second tournament and I was leading at the time!!) So he had no
choice but to carry on. Megan also had thoughts of retiring but stuck it out and
Joe had no thoughts at all of quitting! The sun did come
out for the last two dozen arrows (which dried the tents off a treat) and soon
all wet weather gear was packed away and t -shirts put on. In the end Luke took
the Bristol 1 trophy (yes he did have an opponent!) - Megan took the Bristol 3
trophy (and yes she did have an opponent as well!). And although Joe did not feature
in the medals he did get a personal best score in the Bristol 4. I
was the only senior shooting from the club and I finished 2nd longbow - yahoo!
There were no club records, AAS scores etc - just lots of rain -I'm going to go
again next year, are you?? OTHER TOURNAMENTS?
Yes, I know that many of you have been competing across the
South West and further afield, but I can only report on events that I attend (and
you really don't want to read only about field archery and junior tournaments?)
or those for which I receive reports - It's a great shame that we miss out sharing
on club members' successes - You are ALL more than welcome to submit reports and
pictures- I know we had representatives at Dunster, Minchinhampton (Juniors won
the overall team trophy), Bowmen of Burleigh (Steve Docker won gents recurve)
and the Masters, to name just a few! So over to you archers! ENGLAND
SELECTION FOR TERESA! Congratulations
to Teresa Bridges for being once again being selected to represent England at
the Euronations in Guernsey on 1st July. Good shooting Teresa, we know you'll
do yourself, England and the club proud! CLEVE
SPRING TOURNAMENT Report by Helen Norman Sunday
7th May dawned fair and bright, with hardly a cloud in the sky - what a shame
it wasn't to last, though with hindsight we were very lucky with the weather.
One by one, shortly after 7 am, various members of Cleve Archers appeared at Yate
Outdoor Sports Complex and began a complex and arcane ritual - vans were unloaded,
targets stands and bosses put up, gazebos erected and bacon butties cooked. Yes,
it was the Spring Tournament. The shoot had been full a week before the closing
date, with the tournament organiser heard to mutter on several occasions "I
could have filled 35 targets". It was not to be - 27 are the most that can
safely be accommodated at Yate. Thereafter, Yate became
a hive of activity. Apart from archers bringing out all the excuses they'd been
practising all winter, there was the fundraising stall (which attracted lots of
interest), the caterers (loads of cakes), the raffle ticket sellers, the scorers
and the field working party busy all day, as well as the Hon Secretary chivvying
everyone! On top of that, Club archers also shot well, with Rich Suter, Steve
Docker, Melanie Vining, Matt Griffiths, Chris Docker, and Megan Vaughan all claiming
Rose awards. Needless to say, the day wasn't entirely
problem free. Your tournament organiser (being vertically challenged) couldn't
reach the top of the leader-board and so had to borrow a certain tall, dark gentleman
as sign-writer. Andrew Docker was struck down with tonsillitis and so missed the
whole day (as did Sue, his Mum) and Jordan Hicks retired hurt. And at the end
of the day, several long-standing club members did a very good impersonation of
Mary Poppins as they tried to stop the catering gazebo being blown away in a squall.
I'm pleased to say they all survived the incident, and were able to applaud the
gracious presentation of the awards by our Lady Paramount, Jan Vaughan. All
in all it was a very successful day. Although the accounts are not yet finalised,
it looks as though we made even more profit than last year! I have tried to mention
all the activities involved in the shoot. If you contributed in any way to any
of these, a big thank you from me as Tournament Organiser - I won't name names,
but you know who you are!! Thank you once again for a wonderful team effort.
WEST MIDLANDS FITA STAR Report by Denise Bunce
My first tournament of the season, the West Midlands FITA
Star held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th
April. Cleve Members that entered were me, Gary & Jake Bunce, Mike & Teresa
Bridges, David Rogers, Rich Phillips, Adam & Alex Shaw. We
all camped with the exception of the Shaw's and my goodness it was cold on Friday
night!!! It is so lovely though the next morning just to roll out of bed onto
the tournament field but a slight shock to the system to shoot my first 12 dozen
round as I hadn't picked my bow up all winter and had only practised a couple
of times at the field beforehand, as you do !!! Any way
my aim was to finish the round, which I successfully completed, so well done me!!!
Most people seemed happy with their scores for Saturday with the exception of
David who didn't realise that Jake had shot a Gents FITA and scored 54 points
more than him with a whooping 1221 !!! Anyway we had a good time at the pub that
night, Rich practised some magic or some unsuspecting locals and we had some drinks
in the bar to finish!!! Sunday morning came around so
quickly and I must confess that I didn't feel like moving from my lovely sleeping
bag, so I didn't!!! Instead I got up late morning and much to everyone's delight
took photos of them shooting, obviously without them spotting me!!! The
weekend was very cold, hence Adam's groovy hat, we did have quite a bit of wind
on Saturday and a few sunny spells on Sunday. Sunday everyone's scores were a
bit higher as the wind blew less, Gary & Adam shot a GMB Score and Teresa
and Mike shot an MB score. EASTER BUNNY 2006
On Easter Monday a fantastic 17 juniors took part in Cheltenham
Archers charity Easter Bunny Tournament. Luckily the rain stayed away and although
the wind tried it's hardest to blow our arrows back to us and the afternoon was
a bit chilly, everyone had a great afternoon and shot some good scores. So congratulations
to everyone! Our medal winners were: James
Smith - 3rd in Short Junior National Andrew Docker - 2nd in Junior National
(compound) Nick Griffiths - 1st in Short National Emma Willison - 1st
in Junior National Chris Docker - 1st in Short National Matt Griffiths
- 1st in Short National (compound) Megan Vaughan - 2nd in Short National
Annie Burns - 3rd in Short National Well done to the 11
juniors who got Personal Bests! **** James Smith ****

shooting the National round, so well done to all of them especially all those
who were shooting in a tournament for the first time. The parents taking part
were: Sue & Steve Docker, Tracey & Adrian Rawle, Tricia Pillay Mike Beavis
& Stuart Boyd.
Thanks to all the parents who
did the scoring, again the first time for some who all coped really well - good
practice for our shoot on May 7th! See you all there! Lauren

Indoor County Championships 2006 Firstly I would
like to say that there was a great turn out for the club and how well everyone
did for making the journey to the county and open indoor championships, but there
are a couple more people that need to come and take part and win those trophies. The
Personal Bests!!! Megan Vaughan has smashed the old county record and
made a great score of 545. Annie Burns gave it a good effort with a score of 469,
Chris Docker shot superbly and got 518. Michael and Stephen Hardmen Michael got
423 and Stephen got 376 so well done! Sam Boyd got a stunning score of 381, Nick
Griffiths just behind at 375. Thomas Van Raalte did well at 249, James Beavis
made a good effort at 150, and James Smith had a brilliant score of 351. Alex
Shaw had a super sore of 529 The
Results Megan Vaughan did well taking the title of 1st county girl
under 18s recurve with a score of 545 just behind her was Annie Burns with a score
of 469. In the section of the under 18 recurve boy, Luke
Jones was just behind first place with a score of 549. Another Cleve boy was Chris
Docker with a score of 518 coming 3rd. Doing the club proud was Michael Hardman. The
compounds under 18, in first place were Matt Griffiths with a great score of 535
Alex Shaw in second with another great score 529. Girls under 14 recurve,
in first place was Lauren Hicks with a score of 529 unfortunately Emma Wilson
couldn't make it. Recurve under 14 boys Stephen Pillay,
Sam Boyd, Stephen Hardman Nicolas Griffiths, Thomas Van Raalte and James Beavis
did extremely well and making the club very proud. In
the under 14s compound boys coming first was Jake Bunce with a brilliant score
of 541, in second place was Andrew Docker with 516. Our
only under 10 recurve entry from Cleve was James Smith came 1st with a score of
351 so well done to him! I would just like to tell you how important
it is to warm up properly or you can seriously hurt your self, also a quick reminder
to score at the club even if it is a bit rubbish because its bound to go towards
something! Over all it was a superb turn out from

Denise Bunce Junior
County Championships - Cheltenham 3rd September 2005
Thought I would give Lauren & Luke another break from
tournament reporting this weekend - as your two junior reps on the committee have
done a stirling job and deserved another rest! An excellent turnout by
the juniors and by the other clubs as well - plenty of competition for all concerned
and a taster for next season methinks! The
following archers took part on a windy but pleasant day:
Luke, Chris, Michael & Stephen Hardman, Lauren, Megan, Jake, Andrew,
James Beavis, Thomas, George, Jordan - all shot bristol rounds and Joe & Stephanie,
James Smith & Sam Boyd shot the national rounds in the afternoon - by far
the most juniors we have had attend any tournament and for many it was their first
tournament. George (and his longbow) was
the only one to set a club (and county) record with a score of 656. That
is not to say the others did not shoot well, far from it, personal best scores
were shot as follows: Megan 1005, Luke 1019, Michael 744, George 656,
Stephen 810, James 784, Thomas 460, James Smith 333, Joe 426, Sam 303.
AAS scores:- Joe 3rd u12 white, George 2nd u15 blue, James Smith 2nd u12 white,
Megan 3rd u18 blue, Michael 2nd u15 blue, Sam Boyd 2nd u12 white, James Beavis
2nd u12 red. Positions - Bristol 2 - Luke 3rd, Chris 4th (score 1001),
Bristol 3 - Michael 4th (shooting age group below), Bristol 3 girl -Lauren 1st
(score 1109), Megan 2nd, compound - Jake 1st (score 1250), Bristol 4 - Stephen
3rd (shooting age group below), James 4th, Thomas 7th, longbow - George 1st, bristol
5 - Jordan 2nd (score 799), Short Junior National boy - Joe 2nd, James 3rd, Sam
4th, girls - Stephanie 2nd. Following the end of normal shooting there
was a head to head tournament which was very exciting indeed with plenty of support
for those involved (yes indeed, verbal support in a head to head is allowed!).
There were plenty of upsets with novice archers beating seasoned archers (some
success in the early rounds for our novice archers). If you want to know the secret
of succeeding in head to head just watch andrew, talk about composure under pressure!!
In the end Jake won the compound section and Andrew came 2nd. Jake and
his dad, Gary, won the parent & child trophy - come on you recurves, we have
stop them!! Jake also won the trophy for highest scoring compound.
Luke, Lauren & Jake also retained the perpetual club team trophy and
lauren & jake were part of the team that won the county team shield.
So, well done all you juniors it was a great day and I hope we see more of you
at fuure tournaments. Chris Records
officer Black & Gold Summer Tournament
07 August 2005 Yet
again the weather was glorious and we all had a lovely tan by the end of it (always
a bonus)! Now onto the results, I'll start with the recurves: In
Bristol 2 Luke Jones came 2nd and also achieved a Junior Bowmen score. Chris Docker
followed suit by also coming second, he shot a Junior Bowmen score and got a Personal
Best of 1044. We had two archers shooting a Bristol 3
round. Lauren Hicks came 1st with a personal best of 1122, reducing her handicap
to 47; she shot a Junior Bowmen score and a new club record! Megan Vaughn came
2nd; shot a personal best of 914 (a massive increase of 123), reduced her handicap
to 58, achieved her second under 18 blue award and her first Junior Bowmen score!
So the girls are still doing the club proud!!!! James
Beavis was shooting a Bristol 4 and just missed out of the medals by coming 4th
with a good score of 644 and he is now 1st class!!! Jordan
Hicks was our last but certainly not least recurve, shooting a Bristol 5. He was
1st and reduced his handicap to 78. We only had 1 compound
shooting at this tournament, Andrew Docker. He shot a Bristol 4 came 1st and had
a JB score! Congratulations to all the Junior archers
who took part. But we mustn't forget 3 of our oldies who had a bash and did very
well too!! A very special mention to our tea lady - sorry
Social Secretary, Hilary Jones, she shot her first longbow competition in a while
and she won the National round!! Chris Jones our records
officer also shot his very first longbow tournament and came 2nd!! And
finally Sue Docker shot a Hereford round with her compound and was 3rd lady compound! Before
I finish - have you all checked out the website at www.clevearchers.co.uk?
Bob has been very busy adding loads of pictures across the site (yes you are probably
there somewhere!) there's the club records, links to other archery sites and all
the tournament reports (catch up with any you've missed)- go have a look its fantastic!!
Lauren
Hicks Junior Rep Junior National
Championships - Lillishall 2nd & 3rd July 2005 Thought I'd
give Lauren & Luke a break from tournament reporting this weekend - as your
two junior reps on the committee they have done a stirling job and deserve a rest!
Jake, Luke, Chris, Andrew, Lauren, Jordan, Matt & Nick attended this
weekend tournament shooting a metric round on the Saturday and a Bristol round
on the Sunday. Jake & Luke's families decided to camp for the weekend
while the others decided on a life of luxury in hotels - so what would you prefer,
a hard lumpy ground or a soft cosy bed? Give me a hard lumpy ground any day!!
So, to the competition - (after a hearty bacon butty).
Saturday was dull & cloudy all day with variable winds but that did not
put the archers off at all. (Andrew had to withdraw both days with technical difficulties
unfortunately). Club records were set by Matt-1082, Jake - 1324, Lauren
- 1123 and Nick - 998 (with the exception of Lauren these were county records
also). Jake set a national record for the 20m distance scoring 350 out
of a possible 360. Chris also set a personal best of 1034 (which he then beat
the following week with a score of 1037). Matt also scored his first
AAS under 18 red score and reduced his handicap to 46. Positions - out
of 25 Chris finished 15th & Luke 20th. Matt finished 9th from 11, Jake 3rd
from 8, Lauren 8th from 19, Nick 9th from 10 and Jordan 3rd from 3. On
Sunday Luke & Jake had the advantage of getting up a little earlier to have
a practice on the targets next to our camping field. After another bacon butty
breakfast (except hillary who was a bit under the weather
..) It was
down to the competition field. The weather was much better, plenty of
sun and variable winds. Highlight of the day was Jake retaining his bristol
3 National Title with a score of 1264, it was a good contest as he was behind
for much of the day. As for the others they too had a good day with personal
bests for Chris - 1036, Luke 1016 (that cost me a tenner!), Matt - 1028 and Lauren
1068. Jake reduced his handicap to 28 and chris reduced his to 46.
Positions - Chris 13th & Luke 18th from 29, Matt 9th from 12, Jake 1st
from 9, Lauren 13th from 28, Nick 9th from 14 and Jordan 4th from 4.
All in all a very good weekend was had by all (plus their picture in the evening
post!). This is a very different tournament due to the large number of quality
competitiors you don't normally meet during the season and I take my hat off to
our juniors for putting up a good showing. When next years National Championships
come around we will see Luke, Jake, Nick & Andrew move up an age group.
And I hope to see a few more of you enter next year (and camping too!). When
we first attended two years ago only two of our juniors went (Luke & Tristan)
and last year Luke was joined by Jake, Lauren, Chris & Andrew, this year there
were eight. We have a very large junior club and it would be great to
see as many as possible there next year - even the longbow archers! Chris

Junior Championships 26 June 2005 Firstly
we wished Happy Birthday to Jake and Matt (Matt's birthday was the next day).
It was a dreary day with horrible weather but still enjoyable with a good atmosphere.
Eleven Cleve Juniors shot and should all be congratulated for taking part in a
hard competition against competitive and experienced archers. This was after all
the South West Regional Championship with archers from all over Gloucestershire,
Dorset, Wiltshire Somerset, Devon & Cornwall!! So
how did we all get on? I'll start with the compounds: In
Bristol 2 Alex Shaw finished 1st so is the 2005 Regional Champion! He also achieved
a personal best of 1136; a handicap reduction to 46; his 3rd U15 white A.A.S score
and his second JB score. A lot of achievements!! In Bristol
3 Jake Bunce finished 1st with 1244 is Regional Champion! Jake was the only member
from Cleve Juniors to be selected for the county team this year. He managed to
help Gloucestershire win the inter-county trophy for the first time in 9 years!
Matt Griffiths just missed out on the medals coming 4th but he gained his 1st
Junior Bowen score for his new age group. Last, but by
no means least Andrew Docker was 1st compound in Bristol IV with 1144 and therefore
Regional Champion! So on to the recurves: In
Bristol 2, there was an unusually high number of boy recurves (15) but the boys
did us proud by Chris Docker coming 5th, Luke Jones 10th and Phil Bowen 15th.
Phil also got a personal best of 529 and his A.A.S under 18 blue. It
was the same situation with the Bristol 4 boys recurve, there were 11 in their
category, Lewis Nebel came 9th and Nick Griffiths also just missed a medal coming
5th but achieved a personal best of 919. Lauren Hicks
was 1st girl recurve and Regional Champion in Bristol 3 and her brother Jordan
Hicks did well coming 2nd both in Bristol 5. Both got Personal bests, Lauren-
1025, Jordan- 1050, he also reduced his handicap to 79 and got his 2nd under 12
blue A.A.S award. Chris Docker, Lauren Hicks and Jordan
Hicks won the Coventry Trophy (recurve team trophy) for Cleve Juniors!! Cleve
hasn't won this cup for an even longer time than the regional one, 10 years!!!!!!
All archers who went deserve a congratulation, so well
done! It was a brilliant day, especially Jakes
birthday lunch (courtesy of Denise Bunce) and the fantastic cake (made by Chris
Griffiths)! Altogether Cleve Archers achieved 5 personal bests, 2 handicap reductions,
3 A.A.S scores, 2 Classifications scores, 4 Regional Champions and the overall
team trophy!!! I think we can all agree that we did very
well and if you couldn't come this year why not ask some of the others what its
like? We all had a lot of fun and it will be even better to see more archers next
year - we missed you all - lets have some longbow archers there next year too!!
If the parents of any junior archers have photographs
to add to the website can they please e-mail them to bobnichols@tiscali.co.uk
The funnier the better!! Sorry this has come out so late
but I have been busy and I promise to get them done a bit sooner. Don't
forget if you have any questions about anything talk to either myself or the other
junior rep Luke Jones. Is there anything you'd like to change or voice your opinion
on? And finally
. Good Luck to everyone shooting
at Black & Gold (7th August) and also a reminder that the Gloucestershire
County Champs are on Sunday September 3rd. Lots of trophies (including Longbow)
and awards up for grabs and there's even lots of monetary prizes totalling almost
£200!!!! So if you haven't entered yet ask Gareth for a form. This is a
great tournament for new archers too as it has National Rounds in the afternoon
- this was my first ever tournament, I did a Short Junior National 2 years ago!
So come along everyone and have some FUN!!

Message from the Records Officer - County team selection!
It
was unfortunate that I could only select Jake from our club for the county team
this year (compared with 5 last year). Just to point you in the right direction
if you wish to be considered for selection next year-I need to select 2 archers
per Bristol Round (Bristol 1,2,3 and 4 only), I must have at least 1 girl, I can
only have Two Compounds (Although if recurves are scoring higher then compounds
I don't need to pick compounds), I use scores from tournaments from April to the
second week of June and take the best three scores from each archer and select
using the handicap table. So shoot well (ALL THE TIME!!) AND IT COULD BE YOU

Minchinhampton 5th June
2005 This was a tournament with nice weather; well
it started off nice, until the end where it rained for a couple of ends, but not
very heavily. 8 archers represented Cleve Juniors, which was not a bad
turn out. All of these archers did very good although not all got medals. These
archers were: Stephen, Nick, Andrew, Megan, Jake, Chris and finally me. Matt was
shooting but unfortunately retired later on. So congratulations are in
order for all. Stephen came 4th in the Bristol 4 boys recurve, Nick came 3rd in
the Bristol 4 boys recurve, Andrew came 1st in the Bristol 4 boys compound. Megan
came 1st in the Bristol 3 girls recurve. Jake came 1st in the Bristol 3 boys compound.

across the field most of the day. No sunshine at all but stayed dry most of the
day. On Saturday Lauren's score was 1037, which was a personal best and
a club record. Jordan's score was 828, which was also a personal best.
On Sunday it poured down with rain all day, worse than at Chippenham. It wasn't
windy all day, but there was fog instead making it hard to see the targets at
times. Some adults gave up because of the weather but all juniors carried on.
On Sunday Lauren's score was 947 and Jordan's score was 747 for both days
combined Lauren ended up with 2087 winning her the Exmouth Fita Metric 3, 1st
visitor for DCAS, this was a personal best and a club record for her well done.
Jordan's combined score for both days was 1575, which won him the Exmouth Fita
Metric 5, 1st visitor for DCAS, this was a personal best, club record and a county
record for him. These two did very well so congratulations to you. Luke

Chippenham Fita 2000 Tournament 16th
&17th April 2005 This was a tournament that
anyone who has heard anything about it hadn't heard anything nice about the weather.
It was, at least, better than last year though not by much. 4
archers represented Cleve Juniors, not a great turn out, but there didn't seem
to be many advertisements for it. 2 of these 4 archers only shot on the Sunday,
they were Chris & Andrew Docker. The 2 archers who shoot both days were Lauren
Hicks and Luke Jones. Congratulations are in order for
all 4 of these archers as they all came away with prizes and personal bests. Chris
came 1st for the single Metric 2 boys with a PB of 948. Andrew also came 1st for
the single Metric 3 boys with a PB of 1097. Luke came 1st for the double Metric
2 boys with a PB of 1923 and Lauren came 2nd for the double Metric 3 girls with
a PB of 956 single and 1866 double. Club records were
set for both the double and single Metrics. Lauren got a single Metric 3 score
at 956 and a double Metric 3 score at 1866. Andrew got a single Metric 3 score
at 1097 (Andrew was both shooting an age group above what he usually does and
got a county record). Finally Luke got a double Metric 2score at 1923, which was
also a county record. Andrew also got his 3rd under 15 red AAS score. There
were of course adults from Cleve who shot and they were Steve & Sue Docker
and Chris Jones. Sue came 1st for the Ladies single compound, Steve came 3rd for
the Gents Olympic single and Chris Jones came 5th for the Gents Olympic double.
As you can see even though we didn't have a great
turn out we did very well overall. Chris
