Larry Godfrey
Profile

How did you get involved with your sport? Did you take to it immediately?

My father introduced me to the sport at the age of 9. My father was my coach through my early years as a junior.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Winning the Continental Qualifying Tournament in Belgium and as a result winning my Olympic place on the Great Britain Olympic Team for Athens 2004.

Were the Olympics ever your ultimate goal? If so, what will be your motivation after you've completed in the games?

Yes, the Olympics was my ultimate goal and life time dream. Winning the Europeans and the World championships.

What kind of training are you/have you been doing to get ready for the 2004 Olympics?

Shooting at least 3 hours every night. Gym work (2hours) twice a week. Mental rehearsal training – all the time!

Do you have a good luck charm that you always carry with you, or a special ritual, or anything that you believe can help you in your performance before competing?

I pray to my God to help me shoot my arrows the best I can.

When competing, do you hear the crowds? Are you conscious of them? How do they affect your performance?

No, I get in whats called “the Zone”.

In the past decade many more athletes have been extending their careers. It's becoming more common for athletes to compete in two, or even three, Olympic Games. Where do you see yourself in 2008? Would you like to still be competing in 2012?

Yes, I expect to be still competing, after all I am only 28. As Olympics go, what happens, happens. If I’m meant to go I will.

Who is your athletic hero and why?

Steve Backley – Determination, acceptance.
Steve Redgrave – Dedication.

What do you like to do outside of training?

When I’m not working, relaxing with my family.

How have you coped with having to sacrifice the lifestyle that many people lead and live the life of an athlete? What do you miss about 'normal' life?

Spending time with family and friends, socialising more, going on holiday in the summer!

If you hadn't been an athlete what would you be doing now?

Progressed further at work – Rolls Royce

How will you be keeping in touch with your friends, family and supporters during the Games? How important is their support to you?

Mobile Phone, E-mail. Invaluable.

When competing, what do you miss from home? Any particular foods, your family, your friends?

My family and friends definetly.

Do you use the Internet? If so, what for? If not, why not?

All the time. Information, results, shopping etc. what a wonderful tool!

How much do you rely on email?

Could not live without it. Life would slow down so much!
