CLEVE TOURNAMENTS - 27th April/15th June/19th & 20th July
These tournaments are important to the club. Not only providing tournaments locally but also a good source of much needed income..

Each of our three tournaments are organised by one person (Denise the two senior tournaments and Gareth the junior) but cannot take place without the full commitment of the membership.

  1. There's the field to measure & mark out.
  2. Transportation of equipment - 2 vans required, we have the use of one already (thanks bill), another still needed.
  3. Loading of equipment at the club, day before the tournament.
  4. Unloading and setting up the field (many hands make light work)
  5. Catering for the day - (including feeding the judges), too many cooks..not a problem!
  6. Moving the targets throughout the day.
  7. Unloading of equipment back at the field.

Last years july tournament was an example of how well the whole club pulled together to make a nearly cancelled tournament a great success.

Volunteers are needed by the bucketful - the organisers would like to hear from you partcularly if you can offer the use of a transit type vehicle or if you know of anybody who can, or if you can assist with the catering.

CONTACT DENISE BUNCE & GARETH VAUGHAN - TOURNAMENT ORGANISERS - contact details can be found further in newsletter.

Please do not leave the offer of catering assistance until the day, denise would like to know beforehand - please ring or email.

Membership Fees - DUE APRIL 1ST
The 2008 membership forms have now been sent out - please fill in and return to Sue Suter.
Application forms for adult beginners courses are available on the website if anyone has any friends / relatives who are interested in trying archery - places very limited.

JUNIOR BEGINNERS COURSE BEGINS 6TH MAY TO 10TH JUNE
SENIOR BEGINNERS COURSE BEGINS 8TH MAY TO 12TH JUNE
SENIOR BEGINNERS COURSE BEGINS 14TH JULY TO 18TH AUGUST

As usual help will be required to assist the coaches at these courses - please contact Rodney if you wish to be added to list of helpers, you don't have to attend all courses.
Longbow League….not long to go now…
Nearly time to dust off you sticks of bamboo, yew, lemonwood, check you've got enough arrows left over from last season (remember all those iffy shots that hit the framework instead of the target!) And start practicing for the longbow league.
Once a month, (2nd Sunday in the month starting April 2008) those who are able to and want to and, weather permitting, to meet at 1pm(ish) to shoot a Western round. Say eight archers shoot, the highest score will receive 8 points, 2nd highest 7 points and so on down to 8th place 1 point. There will be five matches April to August.

At the proper end of season longbow shoot (not part of the league) a trophy (Chris has one but we will need another for the ladies) will be awarded to the league winners.
If an archer cannot attend one of the Sundays then it will be acceptable to shoot any other time in the month and the score sheet to be handed to league organiser (Chris) asap. Score sheets will be available in the container next to the handicap sheets.

Open to all - mark it on your calendars. If you haven't got a longbow….ha ha ha ha ha ha!

HANDICAP CARDS
To make things a little bit easier for archers to submit scores to the records officers i have attached a sheet of handicap cards.
Simple to use - just fill in the bits you know (round, date, venue, score etc) and once a month email it to the records officer (chris for senior, steve for juniors) they will fill in the handicap & classification updates and send it back to you. Scores shot at the club also count. If you still fancy the old personal touch (seniors) just leave it in the folder in the container.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
I HOPE BY NOW YOU HAVE A WALL PLANNER!!

Outdoor Shooting - Seniors allowed up the field from 1st March -

Juniors first Saturday will be 22nd March, this is due to Easter Bunny shoot on Monday 24th March.

To enable the juniors to commence shooting without having to find all the markers first (like they do most years, losing most of the session doing this), it has been decided that on Sunday 16th March volunteers are required to turn up at the field (Up Yonder) armed with trowels, spades and pointy sticky things (to find the bricks!). There was talk of refreshments being available……..

Please continue to make sure that, if you are the last to leave the field you check that both containers are closed and padlocked, the toilet door is closed and padlocked and the car park gate is closed and COMBINATION padlocked ONLY!

No complaints since the last newsletter!

Please continue taking your litter home with you. That includes cigarette ends please.

Club Trousers - are being registered as black and only to be worn with club top (purple for seniors, red for juniors).

Likewise, if you are wearing the club top you must wear black trousers only. Club tops are only available by ordering through the club as they must have the club name & logo on them, plain purple & plain red are not club colours(see Denise Bunce).

Traditional white & green can still be worn if not wearing club colours.

Cartridges and Mobile Phones
We make some good money from recycling empty ink cartridges and old mobile phones - collection bin in the main container. If you can please see if you can have the used cartridges from your workplace etc..
Tesco sports for schools vouchers
If you shop at Tesco please collect the sports for school vouchers and give to sue hicks or any member of junior committee, they are handy for getting bits & pieces of useful equipment.

We have just received two new tape measures so far with the vouchers.

Photography Register - Following the disappearance of the first register a second register was put in the container recently and has now gone missing also. As part of the Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults Policy we are required to have a register on site. If you have it or have any information as to its whereabouts, please speak to a committee member.
CUSTOM MADE BOWSTRINGS
If you are looking for a high performance custom bowstring, Greg Hill (formerly of Wales Archery) has set up a business making strings and cables. To find out more details contact Greg on: 07791 532343.

ENGRAVING SERVICE
The winter months are an ideal time to get your trophies engraved - Rachel charges a fraction of the prices charged on the high street and can be contacted on 01454 773316.

Outside Toilets
Please continue to make sure that, if you are the last to leave the field you check that both containers are closed and padlocked, the toilet door is closed and padlocked and the car park gate is closed and padlocked. No complaints since the last newsletter!

Rubbish - It has been noted on several occasions that plastic bottles have been left on the field, obviously not intentional but please take your rubbish home with you.
